Luck and attention

This is one of those shots that owes it’s existence to a bit of luck and some good attention. We were in between shots and I was checking the results on the laptop (I shoot tethered to an Apple Macbook when shooting in the studio). Eve was relaxing on a studio stool and looked over to her left to see what was on the laptop screen. Hazel, the creative director, spotted her in this pose and insisted that she hold it while I take a few shots.

Despite not being on the shot plan this image has become a fast favourite and just goes to prove that you must always leave a bit of space for the unexpected.

Adventure shoot: modern

These two images are from the second half of Sunday’s shoot where we were going for a more modern or current look. Sunday was my first time working with makeup artist Dee-Ann Hargreaves and I have to say I was very impressed with how she interpreted the brief. As usual the stylists from H2O came up with some amazing hair for the shots.

More adventuring: 1960s

Yesterday we had the second of the three planned shoots for the ‘adventure’ project, again covering two different time periods. Once again it was a great session, and I am really looking forward to working my way through all the pictures.

These pictures are from the 1960s period shoot and are two of my instant favourites from the session.

Earlier today I had the pleasure of shooting with two local models. While I have worked with Eve previously it was the first time shooting with Beth so this was an introductory session. It went well and I have some great pictures to be working on. Here is one that I worked on this afternoon so I would have something to share with the girls; I hope you agree with me that they both look amazing.

Voice – Lymm Baptist

It’s not usually the case that we have two Voice concerts in as many weeks but with the launch of their first CD (with songs written and performed by the members of the choir) they have been working to a busy programme. This past weekend they were performing at the Baptist church in Lymm. With many of the choir members coming from the Lymm area it was a packed and enthusiastic audience resulting in a great atmosphere.

It is probably becoming obvious by this point that the ‘adventure’ project that I am working on is covering a number of different time periods. This is proving to be great fun for all involved as it gets everyone a bit outside of their usual range.

The two shots below are part of the preparation and development work for the final project images so I feel fairly safe in sharing them with you. You will have to wait a while to see the final project images; we still have a number of photo shoots and lots of work left to do!

Voice – St Mary’s Upton

The Voice youth choir and orchestra is an organisation I have been partnered with now for some months and Saturday evening I was invited to their latest concert at St Mary’s Upton to take pictures for them. Attending their concerts is always a highlight for me and this occasion was no different than usual. The event was special however as they were celebrating the release of their first CD with 18 original tracks written and performed by the choir members themselves. Many of those songs were performed on Saturday and I have to say I was very impressed.

Voice have another concert on the 11th of December at Lymm Baptist. I will be there again with my camera and I can heartily recommend the evening if you are in the area and able to attend. You can also find out more about Voice by visiting their website.

The adventure continues

In my earlier post ‘the adventure begins‘ I mentioned that in the first photo shoot of this project we covered two setups. Having already shared a couple of pictures from the first of the two setups, here are a pair of pictures from the second setup of the day. As you can see, the look is very different, thanks to the hard work of the amazing ladies at the H2O hair salon and at Heavenly nails and beauty, both of Grappenhall.

The adventure begins

For the past four months I have been working on the planning and organising for a new project and this weekend past all the hard work came together for the first time. With six hair stylists, two makeup artists, two models, a photographer (yours truly) and a creative director we did the first of three shoots, covering the first two of six separate setups.

Exactly what the project is all about will be made clear in time. However I will be sharing a few of the pictures from each session as we go along. Below we have a pair of shots from the first of the two setups shot in this first session.
